Start here. The essentials.

Who it is.AMD designs processors and graphics chips: Ryzen for PCs, EPYC for servers, Radeon graphics cards, and the Instinct accelerators it uses to compete for AI data-centre spending. It owns no factories — TSMC manufactures its chips, so AMD can focus on design. The 2022 acquisition of Xilinx added a programmable-chip business on top. From 2024, the data centre became its largest source of revenue.

Its temper.AMD is famous for big swings. Around 2015 the shares fell to roughly two dollars and the market doubted it would survive; new generations of processors then turned it around, and the stock rose several-hundred-fold over the following decade. Pullbacks never stopped along the way — when the chip cycle turned in 2022, the stock lost more than sixty per cent within a year. The AI era gave it a new role: the main alternative to NVIDIA. Whenever expectations for that role shift, the price swings hard, often with little to do with how the quarter actually went.

So let the tool decide.A stock that climbs over the long run but is regularly cut in half along the way tests discipline more than insight: can you keep buying when it looks worst? Rather than judge whether this pullback is an opportunity or a warning, hand the call to DCA Score. It reads only price position, drawdown depth, buying strength and market fear: low score, keep the original pace; a higher one scales the add-on up.

One thing to know.AMD's reported P/E often looks alarmingly high, partly because amortisation from the Xilinx acquisition holds down accounting earnings. So the valuation factor flashes red easily here without necessarily meaning the business got expensive. When you read AMD's DCA Score, drawdown depth and position against the 200-week average usually carry more information than the valuation line. It pays no dividend, so the return comes entirely from price.

Every moment worth adding

See it for yourself.

Ten years of AMD price with the DCA Score line on top — at a glance you can see how far it has run, and how many times the market has knocked it down along the way. Both lines are already stacked for you.

For a closer look, tap “hot zones” to bring up the add-on bands. Every lit band is a moment the score said “you could buy a little more” — the darker the colour, the rarer that spot.

Then use 10 / 5 / 3 / 1 year above to pull back across the whole cycle or zoom into the recent stretch. Price shows you the moves; the score shows you the timing.

Good question

What most people ask.

No. DCAcafé is a data tool that helps you think through the timing and sizing of investing in AMD; every decision is your own. Past performance doesn’t indicate future results.

AMD’s price and RSI come from Yahoo Finance’s public API, VIX from CBOE, and valuation from public financial filings. Data is refreshed once daily.

When AMD’s DCA Score reaches 60 or above, the system computes an amount beyond your base budget. The higher the score, the higher the matching cap — up to 1.8× the base. It’s the system’s cap for the period, not a rule; you can adjust it yourself.

Because market conditions change. Each time, the system re-reads AMD’s RSI, drawdown and VIX to compute it. That’s the whole point: let the amount follow the market, not the other way around.
